Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character with the Goal to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have encountered plenty of interesting indie games. Yet, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is literally a dung trying to travel to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a jump control. In numerous levels, you'll face mini-bosses and access a store to purchase skins for your poop character.

Plan your jumps precisely, since one error forces starting over. Jump off floating orbs to hurl your character upward, cross fragile ledges, and interact with triggers to open new areas. Collect currency and use them on tougher game content where gameplay gets crazy.

Visually, the demo boasts vibrant environments and catchy music score. The simple art featuring moving geometric shapes evokes memories of gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though hard to think of similar titles where you control a piece of feces, video games have long included fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as plant food. And of course, fecal references is present a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already received significant accolades, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is accessible at present on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on Steam in the fall.
